Familial Exudative Vitreoretinopathy (FEVR) defines a group of inherited diseases with abnormal retinal angiogenesis leading to incomplete vascularization of the peripheral retina. It can be inherited in an autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, or X-linked recessive fashion. Similar to retinopathy of prematurity, this retinal ischemia may lead to secondary neovascularization causing traction, exudation, retinal folds, retinal detachment, foveal displacement, and retinal dysplasia.
